Natalia Rudiak served on Pittsburgh City Council from 2009 to 2018, starting as young Democrat changing the look of city council and leaving with a long lasting impact on public policy. In this episode of the You Should Run Podcast, recorded over Skype while Natalia spent time in Spain, Natalia Rudiak talks about what motivated her to be involved in politics and to take on the status quo as a first time candidate. She also talks about the challenges of being a young woman as a candidate and as a city councilwoman in a major city and how she used her voice to make a difference for her community.
Natalia also talks about encouraging other people to run for office, including through the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network. She highlights why representation matters and why women should run at all levels of government. You'll finish this episode feeling inspired and motivated, if not to run for office yourself, then to encourage and assist other young and new candidates to run and win.
